I was asked the other day by a client, what is my style? I said "I don't really have a style, but I know what I like". What are my favourite colours, fabrics, furniture, architecture etc. What I like changes constantly. But what do I love, what personal style over the years has stayed the same..
I am about to embark on my own renovations, we are completely guttering and flipping our house, so I have been doing a lot of thinking about the things I really really want and love, because I don't want to do this again, I want to grow old in this house and do it right, I want to feel happy and content every time I walk through the front door. I want the decor, furnishings and interior styling to stand the test of time.
I know I love....tall ceilings, dark painted moody rooms, velvet couches, big family kitchens, wooden floors boards, open fire places and patterned Encaustic tiles every where. I think I lean towards the old European buildings with a twist of modern thrown in.
Simple Bo Ho and a touch of organised clutter suits my personality. Books every where, and grandchildren running round the house, sounds perfect.
I know this look isn't for every one, but when you do your own home, don't let anyone change your ideas or style, stick to your guns. Your the one who has to live there.
